ONE TOWN SQUARE: at the intersection of peak oil, climate change, and land use

Peak oil is probably about now

March 1st, 2006 by Jim Just

It wasn’t long ago that peak oil was just a theory of the lunatic fringe. Now it’s mainstream, and is most likely occurring about now, give or take a year or two. Oil production is close to its peak value and is not likely to increase too much more, as new production has to struggle harder and harder to overcome high decline rates in existing production. Even the New York Times now acknowledges that peak oil is almost certainly correct, though they are still a little fuzzy on the timing.
