ONE TOWN SQUARE: at the intersection of peak oil, climate change, and land use

Environment & other values—it’s all about climate

March 30th, 2007 by Jim Just

This piece by Eric Hoffner in Gristmill reflects on a NY Times article about how climate change is devastating Arizona’s “islands in the sky.” Species are disappearing from islands, being squeezed out by the changes. Hoffner ends by stating the increasingly obvious:” It really brings home that no matter what kind of activism we’re involved in on a daily basis, whether it’s knee-deep in a watershed or coordinating youth development efforts in inner-city neighborhoods. … It all comes back to the climate.” He reiterates what Bill McKibben said in a piece in Orion: if we don’t solve our climate problem, all of our other values—environmental, social, economic—are down the toilet.
