California to invest heavily in solar-thermal
April 6th, 2008 by Jim JustFive solar-thermal power plants – capable of generating 900 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 540,000 homes each year, are slated to be built in the Mojave Desert. BrightSource Energy will build the plants, and Pacific Gas and Electric has contracted to buy the power.
Nine solar plants were built in the Mojave Desert between 1984 and 1990 and are still operating.
